Techniques skills and tools needed to provide accurate finished parts that meet blueprint and code requirements. Identification of pieces and parts to simplify shipping and assembly. Identification and prevention of hazardous situations encountered in the shop and on the job site. Emphasis on safety and compliance with rules and workplace requirements. Operations of hand and power tools in a safe manner that leads to productivity and a safe workplace for all. Understanding and use of a MSDS in the welding work place. Procedure for layout and fitting of structural steel members including trusses, left hand beams and columns with an emphasis on Pipe. Discussion of pipe size and schedule and their use on blueprints. Usage of transit for shop Pipe layout applications. Identification and fastening procedures for bolts used for shop assembly of structural steel. Use of templates as a tool to fabricate steel structural components. Application of geometry and mathematics in the layout of components and templates. The principals and procedures relating to layout and fabrication of metal stairs. Emphasis on application of blueprint information to completed component. Use of proper tools and techniques to ensure quality layout, fit-up and fabrication. And requirements for finished stair construction including intermediate platforms and curved stringers. Understanding of right hand and left hand components as they relate to stair fabrication. Use mathematical calculations to determine the ratio of rise and run as they relate to stair stringer layout and fabrication. College supervised on-the-job training. Apprenticeship work experience in an occupation related to student?s apprenticeship program. Cooperative effort of the work supervisor, student, Joint Apprenticeship Training Council (JATC) or Program Sponsor, and instructor to achieve work-based learning objectives. Student must be enrolled in an apprenticeship program. Each Unit of Credit requires 75 hours of paid work experience. Students can earn 1 to 8 units per semester for a maximum of 16 units of Cooperative Work Experience, which includes General Work Experience and Occupational Work Experience/Internship. | ||||
